Here it is: the last 3 weeks of my year-long sabbatical. It has been as restful as productive and eventful. I got a new puppy, went through a breakup, had minor surgery, traveled (I love Greece), helped care for my aging elders, started yoga, met some penguins, and read books for pleasure. I also got to see Kendrick Lamar live, saw Sinners 3 times so far, and spent a lot of time with my favorite people. When it comes to work, I finished a second draft of my book, (re)connected with an interested editor, wrote and submitted a new journal article, presented at two academic conferences, and did a ton of public history (my PBS debut is still a dream come true!). As I take stock of this past year, I am proud of myself for living and learning during this time. I will take all of these experiences with me as I go back into the classroom soon, my 9th year as a professor.
Thanks, sabby. Can’t wait to see you again.
